FROM HERE ON OUT discloses past and future visions of the city, showing a version of city monuments which speak to peoples' material relationships and resource use.

A 45-minute video and sound walk gives you a kind of x-ray vision of the city, layering the cityscape with images of the otherwise invisible processes that drive it. You are invited to experience a city where the back lane is a dairy farm, the shopping centre is a colliery, and there’s a power station on your street corner. Experience the unseen and unspoken substructures of the city brought to life in the centre of Newcastle."

Research for the piece gave us, the makers of the tour, an opportunity to become familiar with a number of excellent resources (people and documents and archives) relating to the agricultural, industrial, manufactured and energetic past, present and future of the region. A number of texts are include here, as footnote to the multimedia content presented in FROM HERE ON OUT.
This multimedia walk was first presented as part of the Wunderbar Festival, which took place in November of 2009 in Newcastle. During the festival, GPS location-aware media devices (HTC HEROs) could be checked out at the Wunderbar Festival Hub. At the close of this Hub, all media from the tour was uploaded here, so that people can try out the tour whenever they like - with their own multimedia devices, iPods, video players, etc.
This project was developed with the help of a good many people. It is our intention to return as much 'behind the scenes' material as might be useful to anyone out there. Below is the source code for the Android applications used to create the GPS driven version initially presented at the Wunderbar Festival on check-out-able (HTC Hero) devices, and the initial voice-over script (although much of this was changed or not used in later editing and post production).
